Three Tips for Promoting Your Store with Snapchat



One of the most popular apps among smartphone users—particularly Millennials—Snapchat can be a gold mine for pet specialty retailers by increasing foot traffic and expanding the customer base of your store. Here are three insider techniques on how you can use Snapchat to benefit your brand:  

#1. Create a Geofilter
Letting people in your area know where you are is one of the easiest things you can do to reach a wide range of pet owners for a small expense. Hosting a sale? Make a geofilter to let people know. To create a geofilter, go to Snapchat’s website and begin creating boundaries for the area surrounding your store.  Your filter will now reach any phone in that boundary who is on Snapchat. Set a time for it to debut and you’re off. One disclosure: be careful with the area and time your filter will cover. The larger the area and time of coverage will skew the price of the filter.

#2. Personally Snapped Discounts
With consumers longing for the personalization of a brand in such a technical world, sending individual Snapchats to a buyer’s phone can kill two birds with one stone. The snap (slang term for a Snapchat message) contains a coupon allowing your customer to save a little money on their purchase and you gain a Snapchat follower. In the long run, this promotion will help your brand execute the final technique.

#3. Get Consumers On the Inside
With Snapchat, there is a feature called “My Story,” where you can add a snap to your story and everyone who follows you can see it. This gives you the opportunity to be creative and gain a larger Snapchat following. People love to be in the know. Emphasize the “My Story” real-time aspect of Snapchat by taking pictures and videos to keep people in the loop about anything exciting happening in your store—a new or promoted product, storewide sales, and events your business may host or attend. Once a following is created, think a little outside the box and have another person take over the Snapchat account to post more unique, fun things. Sour Patch did an excellent job with this back in 2014.
